Macroeconomic Determinants of Unemployment Level in Poland in the Years 1992-2002

Abstract
Changes in unemployment level in Poland over 1992-2002 period and its relationship with macroeconomic factors were presented in this paper. The most important macroeconomic aspects considered in the analysis related to: economic growth rate, rate of change in fixed capital formation, labour force dynamics and foreign trade balance. The study identifies that worsening situation on the labour market was linked to decreasing rate of GDP growth as well as to slowing tendency in growth of investments and export sales. Additionally, this situation resulted from the second demographic boom. The Author concludes that sustained reduction in an unemployment rate in Poland requires the escalating economic growth up to 6-7% per year.
