The System of Surcharges in Gambling

Abstract
The article discusses the system of surcharges in gambling. The legal and economic aspects of surcharges levied on games conducted by state-owned companies have been discussed. The effects and implications of extending surcharges to private businesses have been shown. The period 2003-2008 was studied. The amount of surcharges depends on the income from lotteries and gambling. The achieved revenues of 3.8 billion PLN went to special purposes: sport and culture. Private companies generate additional revenues of 1.38 billion PLN.
