Tendencies and Reasons of Changing the Sources of Providing the Meat Processing Plants with Pork Livestock

Abstract
The paper focuses both on main tendencies in pig livestock supply and factors causing this supply reorganisation in some investigated meat-processing plants. According to the author, the problem of providing the meat processing industry with raw materials of adequate quality and quantity belongs to those each enterprise must salve itself. The process of economic transformation in Poland since 1989 resulted in the following situation - it is the market that assures different sources of the livestock supplying. The choosing favoured forms of livestock purchasing by specific meat-processing plant depends on several factors. Amongst them one can indicate firm development policy and strategy together with firm's market rank described by output volume and plant location vis-a-vis potential raw materials suppliers. In the group of examined meat-processing plants, the hulk of livestock was purchased in the framework of contracts, directly from producers and from brokers. However, the ratios between selected sources of supply varied in surveyed enterprises. Furthermore, the research outcomes show that the importance of permanent procurement outlets in livestock supplies is decreasing.
