The problems of agriculture and rural areas are considered the most important challenge of the integration process. The purpose of the study is to examine the interdependence between the Polish land market liberalization and the hopeful access to the labour market in the European Union. The Author refers to the Community regulations, including these on free movement of capital, as well as to the protecting the superior national traditions. The paper presents political and legal solutions worked out by the Member States of the European Union that may be perceived as the negotiations' guidance. Under the presence of structural unemployment in Poland, the announcements made by 15 Member States of closing the labour markets for employment of Polish citizens, as some revenge, led in the consequence to the easing the negotiation position by the Polish Government in November 2001. The shorter transition period for purchasing the land with a purpose of investments should stimulate the economic growth and encourage the creation of new jobs. As regards agricultural land, a moratorium of 12 years may be considered as justified, provided a prompt enforcing a law protecting the interests of the Polish rural areas.
