Abstract
Decisions of farmers as to the kind of production, whether to develop it or abandon depend first of all on prices paid at the purchase center. The farmer obtains for his product a current price - nominal one, and compares it with prices of other products sold by farm producers - these are relative prices. The production profitability depends both on current price obtained and the price of production costs' components. Actual prices of purchasing agricultural products have been assessed as they show the purchasing power of this price. The contribution presents the method for calculating relative and actual prices on the example of pork, beef and poultry in the years 1980-1994. Discussed are changes occurring in three kinds of prices (nominal, relative and actual) within two consecutive economic systems - centrally planned one in the years 1980-1989 and the marketing system after 1990.
