Abstract

The results of this study confirm that income is a strong factor modelling consumption. This factor's impact is proved among others by the income elasticity of demand for various consumer products. The indices of this elasticity enable the establishing a priority ranking among households' expenditures. Expenses on food, alcohol and tobacco as well as expenses on housing and health can be determined as the basic ones. The indices of demand elasticity in farmers' households classify the most of their expenditures as primary ones. This results from the fact that farmers' households usually do not spend large part of their additional income on food, but rather they consider this income as an economic reserve. It is expected that these households would invest this income in farms if the economic situation were better.
