Predicted changes in food consumption as a basis for sustainable development of food economics in Poland

Abstract
The aim of the study was to present trends and predictions of the food consumption level in Poland up to 2005. The statistical data were collected from the Central Statistical Office (GUS) and covered two levels of information: balance sheets and households' budget results. Special indicators were proposed in order to extend household food consumption with eating outside of house. The obtained results show that the consumption of such products as: poultry meat, fruits and butter will be increase, whereas animal fats, cream and cereal products are predicted to decrease. No progress in milk, beef meat and potatoes consumption is expected. Having in mind positive and negative projected. tendency in food consumption in Poland special nutritional education programmes should be elaborated and implemented among producers, processors, distributors and consumers as a basic condition for sustainable development of food economics in Poland.
